High-Throughput Industrial Coatings Research at The Dow Chemical Company.

چکیده
At The Dow Chemical Company, high-throughput research is an active area for developing new industrial coatings products. Using the principles of automation (i.e., using robotic instruments), parallel processing (i.e., prepare, process, and evaluate samples in parallel), and miniaturization (i.e., reduce sample size), high-throughput tools for synthesizing, formulating, and applying coating compositions have been developed at Dow. In addition, high-throughput workflows for measuring various coating properties, such as cure speed, hardness development, scratch resistance, impact toughness, resin compatibility, pot-life, surface defects, among others have also been developed in-house. These workflows correlate well with the traditional coatings tests, but they do not necessarily mimic those tests. The use of such high-throughput workflows in combination with smart experimental designs allows accelerated discovery and commercialization.

Fire and explosion risk assessment in a chemical company by the application of DOW fire and explosion index
Background: Fire and explosion hazards are extremely important in processing units. This study was performed to identify the risk centers, the potential damage caused by fire and explosion, and the days of production cessation in the processing company. Materials and Methods: The present qualitative case study was conducted using Dow’s index in 2015. The fire and explosion hazard index...

متن کاملAdd-on for High Throughput Screening in Material Discovery for Organic Electronics: “Tagging” Molecules to Address the Device Considerations
This work reflects the worth of intelligent modeling in controlling the nanostructure morphology in manufacturing organic bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells. It suggests the idea of screening the pool of material design possibilities inspired by machine learning. To fulfill this goal, a set of experimental data on a BHJ solar cell with a donor structure of diketopyrrolopyrrole (DDP) and ...
متن کاملSymbolic Regression In Design Of Experiments: A Case Study With Linearizing Transformations
The paper presents the potential of genetic programming (GP)-generated symbolic regression for linearizing the response in statistical design of experiments when significant Lack of Fit is detected and no additional experimental runs are economically or technically feasible because of extreme experimental conditions. An application of this approach is presented with a case study in an industria...

Phase I of the Gulf Coast By-Product Synergy (BPS) project, sponsored by The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) and the U.S. Department of Energy and facilitated by the U.S. Business Council for Sustainable Development, is now complete. The concept behind ByProduct Synergy is also referred to as Industrial Ecosystem, Industrial Symbiosis, or “Industrial Ecology” (IE) system. The philosophy of the IE ap...
